Check frequently asked questions about Foreign Aid
Resolved Question: What do you think of what the Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman is saying on CNN this morning?
That Hamas has replaced every the doctors in the hospitals with those loyal to them and that Hamas is stopping every foreign aid from reaching people. I mean didn't Israel just refuse help from the UN on every this so why should anyone believe what this guy has to say here? I mean it seems to me they are just trying to justify those horrid scenes of dead kids being shoved into freezers and painting a picture to justify their actions. I agree that Hamas is the bad guy here but honestly it just seems to be they are trying to receive us to buy the fact that these casualties are a necessity here and I just cant do that.

Open Question: Why is the mainstream press not reporting that Israel is following international law, Hamas is not?
http://www.thebulletin.us/articles/2009/01/05/herb_denenberg/doc4961c29b5ed1a649711765.txt The easiest way for anyone in the media to receive a scoop is to write anything that is fair and balanced and with respect for the truth on the conflict in the Middle East. That’s because the mainstream media, such as The New York Times, NBC, Philadelphia Inquirer, etc., take the usual anti-Israel line, and fail to report on anything that might put Israel in a good light. So this is my scoop for today. You may have encountered “The Brave New World,” but now you better brace yourself for “The Crazy New World.” Even George Orwell would be shocked by what is going on now, with what might be called triple Orwellian inversions. If someone was writing a memo to the nations on conducting foreign policy, it might look like what follows: If you want the support of the United Nations, most of the world, and the Western media, the formula is quite simple. every you have to do is as follows: 1. Start by having a founding document that has as its central purpose the perpetration of genocide. 2. Then attack your neighboring country by firing rockets at the civilian population, in violation of international law. 3. Hide your rockets and other terrorist equipment in homes and other location where there are many civilians, to maximize the death and injury count when lawful and necessary defensive measures are taken to neutralize your illegal activity, another violation of international law. When your possess people are thus murdered by your possess acts, you can use it for propaganda purposes. You can be sure the Western media will run as many pictures of the dead and injured (for which you are responsible) in a fashion designed to generate sympathy for your position, and that same Western media will be largely uninterested in the civilian casualties caused in the neighboring country by your terrorism. 4. Exaggerate and lie at every opportunity to inflate the number of civilian casualties in your possess land (for which you are responsible by hiding military facilities in civilian locations). That’s for the benefit of the Western media, which will of course publish and eat up any exaggeration or fabrication you care to pass along. Even if you have a long history of exaggerating and lying on such matters as civilian casualties, the Western media will continue to take your claims at face value. 5. When your neighbor responds to your illegal, genocidal attacks, appeal to the U.N. and world opinion for a cease-flame so you can rearm and receive ready to slaughter and murder civilians in new ways and with greater ferocity, as soon as you want to end the cease-flame. 6. Instead of building your possess economy and helping your possess people, put every your resources into terrorist attacks against your neighbor and divert the humanitarian aid that flows into your land to your possess program for genocide, aggression and terror. 7. When your economy turns sour — which it will do inevitably because your first priority is war and terror and not nation building, which is your last priority — and when it is further damaged by the measures of self-defense taken by your neighbor, claim there is a “humanitarian crisis” and a cease flame and more aid is urgently required. 8. Continue your endless attempts to slaughter and butcher civilians, including those of your neighbor and even those of your possess people for propaganda purposes, and then claim any self-defense measures taken by your neighbor are “disproportionate.” 9. Continue to violate every international law on the books, making a mockery not only of law but also of the most basic precepts of humanity and civilization, and then claim your neighbor, who is compelled to act in self-defense, is committing “war crimes.” By now, I’m sure you know this memo was a precise description of Hamas and its genocidal campaign against Israel, and the reaction of the United Nations, of much of world opinion and of the nations of the world, and of the Western media. To say what is happening is outrageous is a gross understatement, and stronger terms must be resorted to, such as an outbreak of international insanity. The world and the media seem to be on the side of genocide and terrorism. The mainstream media, as is its custom, is going out of the way to team with the U.N. and many of the nations of the world, in condemning Israel, attempting to deny Israel its inherent right of self-defense, in calling for a cease flame, claiming a humanitarian crisis, and in doing everything else it can to deny Israel its right to exist. Among the many deficiencies of the reporting are the almost complete failure to discuss the international law that is applicable, how Hamas is in violation of countless international conventions and other provisions of international law and how Israel’s response to the terrorism of Hamas is totally justified and supported by international law. Here are some of the provisions of

Open Question: Why should I support Israel?
The recent conflict in the Gaza strip makes me ask a question that seems to be a perennial one. Now, I'm aware that the current conflict is in response to rocket attacks from Hamas--I'm not challenging that. But Israel suffers from a pretty awful public relations game. I look plenty of pictures of Palestinian kids with blood running down their faces, and I never look the same thing over here about Israelis. Last night I read an article from a Jewish website that talks about diaspora Jews in America having little connection to Israel, and that more Jews at big are becoming critical of Israel's tactics, and its seeming lack of care for Palestinians as human beings at every. I've often had a tendency to say, "We should suspend foreign aid to Israel to make them fall into line." Israel has a tendency for knee-jerk reactions and to me here in America, it always seems like they put impossible demands on whatever Palestinian government happens to be in office; this is what guide to Hamas gaining power in the first place, and Hezbollah's strengthening in Lebanon. Israel is the modern-day Hannibal: They can win battles, but they have no clue on how to win a war. So, if Americans Jews ask the question, I will ask the question. Since my taxpayer money bleeds over to Israel (Total U.S. aid amounts to a total cost of $23240 per taxpayer since 1949) why on earth should I want to support that country in the first place? I'm not a European. I don't have 'holocaust guilt.' I frankly think Israel's existence does less for the regions stability. The only argument I hear here in the States is "We need a democracy in the middle east," yet I have yet to reap any benefit from such a democracy. Hamas got elected and Hezbollah is stronger--both due to an aversion to peace from Israel's government. In short, I look no benefit at every as an American Citizen for supporting Israel. And as time goes on, people like me are the ones Diaspora and Israelis will need to convince, because in my lifetime the question is going to be "My social security, or benefits for people with nothing in return." There's no ROI in supporting Israel, and it doesn't make me feel warm inside either. So, world, tell me why. So far it appears that a few people haven't read the question closely enough. I'm asking why *I* should support Israel. That they have a homeland is *their* problem and I look no reason to spend U.S. tax dollars to defend it. As I have read my history I have yet to look a single instance where Israel has offered us something that we couldn't have achieved ourselves. I'm aware of history and know that Jews have been a persecuted people, but that is a *bad* basis for *American* public policy. Hamas and Hezbollah are *both* stronger now than they were before, and I look this as a result of a Bellicose Israel. I fail to look where U.S. interests are served here, and that's what I'm looking for. What benefit do I receive from this? Because I certainly don't feel warm inside.

Open Question: What do you think of this persuasive essay?
Please note any grammar mistakes, sentence flow issues, adn everything else in general. Thanks. Its name was Choson, or "the Land of The Morning Calm." Either Chinese or Japanese invaders had ruled it for hundreds of years. Yet it would later stage one of the bloodiest conflicts in the icy War. (Granfield XIX) It would be the spot were over 54,000 American boys died. (Stein 109) Its name was Korea, and it was were America fought its first battle against the communist state (icy War). (Granfield XIX) Yet because of this, I believe Americas involvement in this war indirectly stopped the advance of communism, aggressive foreign policies toward the West, and made the United Nation and Korea fighting forces into n exceptionally well fighting force, stopping various advances in Vietnam. After World War Two, Franklin Delano Roosevelt believed that Korea should be below an international trusteeship. At the Tehran Conference, the Soviet Union, United States, and United Nations every agreed. The United States and United Nations were given the South. The Soviets were given the North. (Malkasian 9) President Roosevelt had hoped that the Soviet Union and United State could cooperate and guarantee peace and stability. This every changed when the Soviets set up communist governments in Europe. (Isserman 8)The United States opposed communism. The Soviets sought to expand it. (Malkasian 8) The Soviets and Americans both had nuclear weapons (Isserman 9,10), and the Americans feared a nuclear war. (Malkasian 9) The Soviets thought that the most progress was being made in Asia. Mao Zhedong, a communist leader, had just taken over the Chinese government, and Ho Chi Minh, another communist leader, was waging a war on Vietnam's government (Vietnam was a French colony). (Isserman 9,10) After Mao had taken over China, the Americans had tripled their war budget, made more nuclear weapons, and started fearing that North Korea would be given nuclear weapons. (Isserman 10) The Soviets, however, thought that a South Korean invasion should be backed for three reasons: 1. There would be more Soviet security in Asia. 2. North Korea would have the first strike. 3. China would be closer to the Soviet Union. Because of this, the Soviets sent aid to North Korea indirectly; China also began to send aid to them, and even later in the war, soldiers. (Malkasian 14) War experts in the United States then thought of the Domino Theory: if one country in Asia fell, every would then follow. The order was: China, Korea, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, Burma, and eventually India. China had already fallen. According to the list, Korea would be next. (Barzanti 1) The United States reinforced its military bases in the Philippines, Hawaii, and Japan, waiting for an invasion. It would eventually arrive. As a result of the Korean War, South Korea gained 1500 square miles of land and the South Korean army grew to 600,000 soldiers. "South Korea emerged militarily secure, but domestically unstable." The president throughout the war, Rhee, would later be overthrown in a coup in 1961. (Malkasian 89) In the tardy 1950s, Mao said the Soviets were interfering with China's Independence, causing the Chinese-Soviet Alliance to break up. (Malkasian 90) In 1959, North Korea and South Korea formally met at Geneva: no progress was made since the two sides demands were too great. (Malkasian 86) North Korea has suffered many food shortages and has very little freedom."In the 1990s, 25 million Koreans died from famine".(Santella 34,38) Yet it has an army of 1 million active soldiers. (Santella 34,38) The West stopped the first big scale attempt at over aggression from the communist states. " Without deving into a counter factual, it is reasonable to assume that if South Korea had not been successfully defended, China and the Soviet Union would have continued with a more overtly aggressive foreign policy toward the West." (Malksasian 87) The Soviet Union would be less involved in future wars; instead it would use guerrilla warfare instead of open assaults. The United Nations would also become an exceptionally well fighting force, stopping various communist advances in Vietnam. ( Malkasian 87) South Korea was also involved in the Vietnam War. It sent three full divisions of soldiers; 312,000 totally, and its forces were the most aggressive of the war. They fought at many major battles, successfully defended many bases, and also stopped the communist advance in Vietnam many times. (Murray 15) North Korea still presents some threats today. " North Korean leaders are working to develop nuclear weapons-among the most deadly and power

Open Question: Why is our taxpayer money funding Israel, and should we?
I mean, I don't have anything against Israel. I just don't know why we fund them. It's like me giving some random person of the road 50 dollars anytime I look that person. Why? Foreign aid is fine, but isn't it logical to keep our possess national debt below control before giving out more money? We don't fund Britain or Canada in teh billions. So, we pay them because they're our ally. Ally-for pay, huh? Why single out Israel? Because the United States pays special attention to it.

Resolved Question: Is Gaza anything more than a temporary concentration camp ?
What is Israel's long term plan for Gaza I wonder? Gaza is a strictly controlled Israeli area, this is proven by the fact that Israel does not allow foreign journalists into Gaza.Israel has simply conned (that word again) the international community into aid support for Gaza. If Gaza was free Gaza could allow journalists in, but land sea and air are Zionist controlled. who me? Warsaw Ghetto is a good comparison. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/shared/spl/hi/middle_east/03/v3_israel_palestinians/maps/html/population_settlements.stm Gaza Strip: Population Gaza, one of the most densely populated tracts of land in the world, is home to about 1.3m Palestinians, about 33% of whom live in United Nations-funded refugee camps. About 8,000 Jewish settlers also lived in the Gaza Strip until September 2005 when they and the troops that protected them were withdrawn. Before the withdrawal, travel in and out of Gaza was severely restricted for long periods Gaza looks to me like United Nations funded refugee camps used as concentration camps by Israel.

Open Question: How should I register? Republican or Democrat? I’m interested in a career in politics?
I am still young and confused about how I should register. Here are my views. After you tell me what I should register as can you tell me if you would ever support me in an election. I believe in lower taxes, I agree with a flat income tax and a flat sales tax. I also support a sales tax holiday to last thru the month of December to boost buying. I think that lower taxes and ax breaks should be used as incentives for companies to arrive back to the US and so that tiny businesses and entrepreneurs have a fair shot. I am a believer in capitalism with some regulation (health benefits, workers comp, and work hours obviously). I think that a good program would be a tiny business bond program where average Americans can lend money to government in secured loan with interests, so that that money can then be lent to tiny businesses but lenders would receive money back with interest. I also believe that taxes should not control behavior but instead should be used as a way to receive revenue. On social issues. I believe that a civil union for any two consenting adults is a must but am opposed to calling it marriage because marriage is a religious ceremony. When it comes to abortion I strongly oppose it and believe that government money should not be used to fund abortions. I do believe though that it must remain legal but that people that do it should do it with their possess money. I oppose GOVERNMENT funding of stem cell research and cloning. On foreign policy. I am against entangling alliances and I believe that our military resources should be used only for self-defense (Ex. 9/11). I also have my possess philosophy called “western-hemispherianism”, where I think that the US should its private sector should instead negotiate and create jobs in the western hemisphere rather than in eastern countries like China and India. Doing so would weaken our political enemies and bring an end to the immigration crisis (the biggest reason why people migrate is lack of jobs). On that note I am strongly against illegal immigration. I support raids and deportation and the construction and investment in more border security. I believe in protectionist policies (tariffs) against companies that have jobs in eastern countries. On social security I oppose it except for helping those with disabilities and widows. I do not believe that retirees should be supported by the government but that they should rather have personal responsibility and keep for the future. They should be able to use their money to invest how over they like. When it comes to welfare I believe that irresponsible parents and people who do not seek a job or an education. Welfare should be used and not abused. On energy I believe in investing in nuclear, clean coal, geothermal, solar, natural gas, bio-fuels, and the exploitation of OUR fossil fuels. I believe in energy independence. When it comes to health I think that workers should be able to pick to keep their possess health insurance thru their jobs, purchase on their possess. I also support legislation where hospitals and clinics can enlist their services in a database and where they promise to provide services to families that can prove that they have a wage of below $50,000. In exchange I would promise the hospital an annual $1 billion and clinics $4million (excludes cosmetic procedures and abortions). I support cancer research and AIDS research as well as autism research. Finally!Education. I think that the system needs to go through some serious reform. Teacher’s abilities should be tested by their respective states. States should also make legislation to not allow cell phone access in schools. They should also make contracts with internet service providers to make sure that every schools have access to the internet and that students have their textbooks. I am also a supporter of the voucher program for students who wish to apply for alternative schools. I also wish we had a program where students who graduate college/apprenticeship for example can receive a $1500 bonus after they graduate. I also think that cities should create local workshops paid by the government where students can go to and receive tutoring free of charge by college students in certain fields (mathematics, literature). This could count as work study for college students while at the same time prepping elementary and high school kids. AND OF COURSE PARENTS MUST DO THEIR PART! sure unka dano

*i need your opinions about this.thanks! Escape global financial crisis, visit North Korea By Yoo Choonsik PYONGYANG, Oct 30 (Reuters) - As the relax of the world groans below the strain of the spreading financial storm, life in the self-described paradise of North Korea remains blissfully untouched. "We know many countries are struggling due to the financial crisis ... we have no problem here," said a North Korean guide working with a visiting aid group from the South, whose economy has been among the hardest hit as financial markets tumble around the world. North Korea's centrally planned economy, built around the state ideology of self-reliance, has little time for capitalism and has only in recent years grudgingly allowed even road markets to emerge. It has no stock market and visitors pay for everything in foreign currency at an officially set -- and inflated -- exchange rate. It also has one of the world's poorest economies that has managed to avoid any impact from the surge in economic growth of its East Asian neighbours. Constantly below threat of famine, its 22 million population has an annual per capita income, by one estimate, of no more than $400. That's about 2 percent of the level in capitalist South Korea. "We are hearing that it will take a while until the countries arrive out of the crisis, but ... we are okay because we have a different system," said the guide, whose duties included blocking his charges from making any contact with ordinary North Koreans. But the looming global recession has arrive at an awkward time for Pyongyang's leaders, just as they are gradually mending fences with the outside world over their nuclear weapons ambitions with the wish of tapping into the international economy from which they have largely isolated themselves for the best part of 60 years. This month, Washington removed North Korea from its list of governments that sponsor terrorism, lifting a major deterrent to doing business with a country still barred below United Nations sanctions from dealing with outside financial firms. "The removal from the list will help our country improve relations with the United States," the guide said, without going into detail on how it might lift an economy whose industrial base has mostly rusted into decay. North Korea's economy had flourished in the 1970s but has since been contracting, prompting many analysts to say it has become a failed state. Its current leader Kim Jong-il inherited the position from his dad and North Korea's first ruler. Despite the policy of self-reliance, North Koreans depend heavily on aid, mostly from neighbouring China and South Korea but the government shows no sign that it is ready to open up more than a crack. Visitors are banned from bringing their mobile phones into the country. The Internet exists, but it can take quite a long time to send a simple email. "Fill in the application form and give it to me. I will receive back to you quickly, in just 30 minutes," a member of staff at one of the two biggest tourist hotels in Pyongyang told a guest who asked to use a computer to send an email. The hotel staff balked when the guest said he wanted to email his wife in South Korea, with which the North remains technically at war. "No, you can't. You should not write to an email address in the South," said a hotel worker in charge of international communications. An hour, rather than the promised 30 minutes later, she allowed the guest to send an email to his daughter in the United States for $3 -- in difficult cash. http://in.reuters.com/article/businessNews/idINIndia-36220320081030

Open Question: Odd aspect of US government Foreign Policies?
If a nation chooses or is forced by its govnt. to veer towards communism the US is likely to send troops to kill the population presumably in order to set them free.eg VietNam If a country is run by a murderous difficult line right wing govnt., subject to internal opposition, the US is likely to interfere and send aid to ensure that the regime is able to kill its opponents if necessary. eg El Salvador. Iran in the 1950's Chile. Isn't that odd ?

Resolved Question: Why is American foreign policy so screwed up?
I'm an Indian and i'd support America anyday over the barbaric Islamic countries! We support Democratic values but America seems to always look out for short term benefits! Why is America arming a terrorist state like Pakistan at the expense of relations with a Democratic state like India? every the American aid to Pakistan is used to arm the Pakistani army for a conventional war against India instead of fighting Islamic terrorism! When will America realise that Pakistan supports Islamic terrorism and uses it to extract aid from western countries to arm it's military against India! The purpose is still Jihad! Joe, your attitude will only bring a nuclear war much sooner. As an educated American i'd expect you to understand the difference between real and "Phantom" aid. India does not take any real aid and phantom aid benefits the US more than the supposed beneficiary! receive your head outta your rear end and look the world for what it is! Your "supposed" aid is more about American investors making money than helping India. It is a symbiotic relationship. We don't owe you anything! You can take your money and invest wherever it gets you the best returns. if it happens to be India, it's you who is making money, off your money. Don't effing try to tell me you are doing me a favour!

Voting Question: I don't know what party I belong to anymore, if any, can anybody help?
I am a registered Democrat, but I vote much more Republican lately, not always, but mostly. I have not officially changed parties, because I am unsure what I should change to. I tend to side with the Republicans on moral issues and somewhat the Democrats on other issues and still in between on others. I guess I'm confused about what if any party I would fit into. Can anyone help me? -I am against abortion. -I am against gay marriage. -I am ok with marijuana being legal although I myself no longer use it. -I am Not against Welfare for those that are disabled or truly need it. -I am on the fence when it comes to Capital Punishment. - I have mixed feeling about freetrade. - I have mixed feelings about foreign aid. -I am against Universal Health Care. -I have mixed feelings about the war. I am glad that Saddam is gone. I think we should start to bring many our Troops home Now and the relax home in a reasonable time. Not years. -I think we should do more to protect our natural environment. -I believe that illegals should be deported and the fence built and that we should cease catering to them. - I am doubtful the bailout is a good solution. -I have Very mixed feelings about taxing the wealthy more. I am Far from wealthy and it would be nice to have some of their money, but I do feel it is their money and that I don't have any business forcing them to give it to me any of it. (again, it would be nice, I just don't feel it is right, I mean who am I). I feel spreading the wealth is both fair and unfair, lol. -I am for free speech - I lean against Affimative Action, but am still am unsure. - I feel that Social Security needs more protection. Please help.

Resolved Question: Isn’t foreign aid to Israel just another form of socialistic welfare?
Under what moral authority does the U.S. government, operating through the IRS, seize the earnings of the American people to redistribute their wealth to anyone else, including the Israeli government? Why shouldn’t Americans be free to do what they want with their possess money? If Americans were free to keep everything they earned, they could donate as much money as they wanted to any foreign entity or anyone else, on a purely voluntary basis. Or they could refuse to do so. What would be wrong with restoring that freedom to the American people? If such freedom was good enough for our American ancestors for more than 125 years, why isn’t it good enough for us?
